Battery is low
Quickly typing my haiku
15% left
Bedtimes come quickly
Lunches are packed
New clothes are prickly
The buses come back
The summer was fun
Three months just flew
Now is the time
To get back to school
Teachers will welcome
School bells will ring
Kids pack the class rooms
All back in the swing
The same thing happens
Year after year
Kids making memories
Someday they’ll hold dear
Storms knock out Uverse
Internet disconnected
Let’s go play catch, boys.
Many distractions
Phone, TV, Video games
Turn them off and talk
Lying in a tent
The earth can’t get much closer
It keeps you grounded
Sandy beach sunset
Boats bobbing as the world turns
A cool way to live
A school will be built
First there must be town meetings
Citizens question
“I need you to help”
Volunteers answer the call
That’s how things get done
We walked the path to the river today
casting modern life away
The lapping water and calling birds
were peaceful, timeless sounds we heard
Someday the boys will be grown men
they will follow their own callings then
But just for this moment
we froze time
Down by the river,
these boys of mine
