Indians Win Without Me

Indians day game.
I missed a sweet victory.
Go Tribe! #Windians!

My beloved Cleveland Indians have stumbled a bit in the early part of the season. Today the game was at noon and I was unable to watch it. Of course, they won.

Browns New Uniforms – A Haiku

Browns have new unis
Half an hour to reveal
Seems like a bit much

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I wrote this Browns haiku as I watched the live local TV coverage of new sporting apparel being cheered by grown men and children alike.

I liked the uniforms, basically because they remind me of BGSU.

A poem for fair-skinned baseball fans

‘Twas a sunny day
I watched baseball from the stands
Should have worn sunscreen.

I preserved the hashtags for this poem as it appeared on Twitter. I did eat nachos from a souvenir helmet that is in no way to be mistaken for a protective headgear. The imprint in the crown is very clear on this matter, once you get past the tortilla and cheese.

By the way, I didn’t really get sunburned. The Lake County Captains won. I had nachos from a helmet. I feel pretty good about life right now.

A Short Poem For Cleveland Weather In the Spring

Cleveland weather day
Sunshine and 80s, then rain
Fog and 50 now

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I repeatedly remind local folk that America is a free country and if you really don’t like the weather where you live you are perfectly free to move to Arizona. That is, unless you already live in Arizona. In that case you would still be where you didn’t like the weather. I suppose you could move from Phoenix to Flagstaff, the weather in those two cities is really different. Flagstaff is beautiful. So is Phoenix. I don’t want to offend anyone. Beautiful weather and beautiful people. Just like in Cleveland.

Haiku recalling how a yellow school bus almost crushed me

Almost wrecked today.
Nearly crushed by a school bus
That was a close one!

There I was. Just minding my own business motoring my little Honda Civic down I-77 South. The driver of the big yellow school bus decided the lane I was in, right next to her, looked like a nice place to drive. I used a combination of a horn and accelerator to escape.

Baseball birthday blast

The Real Slamtana
Carlos Santana homers
Thank you, birthday boy!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Carlos Santana is the Cleveland Indians’ first baseman. He hit a home run on his birthday, as he has done several times.

His twitter name is @TheRealSlamtana. You should follow him. He is a very funny guy and interacts with the fans.

I would also like to think that I helped him pick is new Twitter handle. He was looking to his followers for suggestions because Slamtana was already taken. I suggested RealSlamtana, the other account being an imposter.

A poem for Opening Day in Cleveland

Tribe opening day
A new season commences
Fans already freak

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I get it. My Dad saw the Indians play at League Park, Cleveland Municipal Stadium, and Jacobs Field. My Great Grandfather was an Indians fan, the kind that wore a suit, tie, and straw hat to the ballpark. He probably smoked a cigar, too.

What I am trying to say is that I love the Indians and I understand the emotion. It is a family tradition I an handing down to my boys.

But come on, people. The season is long. April to October is a long, long road.
